Illustration drawn to commemorate the year of 2017, and as a memorial to those close to me that died in 2016. The stones are each marked with a japanese character, reading "Death", "Black", and "Friend" (right to left). They're gravestones representing my highschool teacher that died from sudden heart failure, my black cat that I had raised for nearly two years that died near the beginning of 2017, and a good friend of mine that died in November of 2016 due to cancer.

My hope for 2017 was to be able to start a new phase in myself and allow the memories and pain from the previous year to power me artistically onward. 2017 was also a lunar new year...

The amaryllis flowers on the ground are often given up at funerals...
